How Trauma May Be Impacting Your Mental Health

Living through a traumatic experience often changes the way you move through the world. Trauma isn’t only about what happened; it’s about the lasting effects it has on your body, mind, and sense of safety.

The good news is, with the right type of therapy and support, healing is possible.

You may be living with the effects of trauma if you notice:

  • Flashbacks, intrusive memories, or nightmares connected to a traumatic event

  • Feeling constantly on edge, anxious, or unable to relax, even in safe situations

  • Avoidance of people, places, or situations that remind you of what happened

  • Feeling disconnected, numb, or shut down as a way to cope with overwhelming emotions

  • Struggles with trust, closeness, or feeling safe in relationships

  • Carrying shame, guilt, or self-blame connected to past traumatic incidents

Trauma therapy in Phoenix, AZ, can help.

Trauma therapy can give you a safe space to finally lay down what you’ve been carrying for so long. Over time, therapy can ease the intensity of triggers, restore your sense of safety, and help you reconnect with yourself and others in ways that feel nourishing. Most of all, trauma therapy reminds you that you are not broken — you are human, and healing is possible.

How Working with a Trauma-Informed Therapist Can Help:

When you’ve lived through trauma, it can feel like your past has too much say in your present. Maybe your body still tenses at the smallest reminder, or you find yourself pulling away from people you love without fully knowing why. Trauma has a way of leaving you on edge, disconnected, or questioning yourself, but it doesn’t have to stay that way. With the help of the right trauma counselor, healing really is possible.

Through trauma therapy, you may begin to notice:

  • A greater sense of safety in your own body, with less reactivity to triggers

  • Relief from intrusive memories or the psychological effects of traumatic events

  • Healing unresolved pain and breaking harmful generational cycles connected to child trauma or childhood experiences

  • Building confidence, trust, and self-compassion as you release shame and self-blame

  • Restoring connection in relationships and daily life so you no longer feel defined by what you’ve been through

Working with a trauma therapist is not about erasing the past; it’s about giving you back your freedom in the present. No matter what you’ve been through, you deserve to feel whole, grounded, and supported as you step into the life you’ve been working so hard to build.

Your past doesn’t define you.

WE’RE HERE TO HELP YOU MOVE FORWARD.

FAQS

Common questions about working with a trauma therapist in Phoenix, AZ

  • As trauma therapists, we’ve completed advanced training in evidence-based approaches like EMDR and Internal Family Systems (IFS).

We specialize in working with trauma and PTSD, helping clients process difficult memories, release the weight of traumatic experiences, and find new ways of coping that feel safe and empowering.

Our role isn’t just to “treat trauma” as a condition; it’s to meet you as a whole person, and to help you feel calmer, more grounded, and more connected to yourself and others.

  • Our job is to provide a safe, supportive space where you don’t have to carry your story alone. Together, we’ll use approaches like EMDR and parts work to gently address the impact of trauma and PTSD at a pace that feels manageable for you.

Sometimes that means focusing on calming the nervous system and building coping skills; other times it means going deeper into memories or emotions that are ready to be healed.

We see our role as walking beside you — never pushing, but guiding you toward relief, balance, and self-compassion.

  • There’s no one-size-fits-all timeline for healing. Some clients begin to notice relief in just a few months, while others choose to continue longer-term to work through complex trauma or deeper wounds.

In our sessions, we’ll check in regularly about how you’re feeling, what’s changing, and what you need next.

Our focus isn’t on quick fixes, but on creating real, lasting shifts that help you feel lighter, safer, and more confident in your daily life.

  • You’ll usually notice changes in small but meaningful ways. Many of our clients begin to feel calmer in their bodies, less reactive to triggers, and more compassionate toward themselves.

You may find yourself sleeping better, feeling less anxious in relationships, or no longer carrying the same shame or guilt tied to the past.

Over time, trauma therapy often brings a sense of safety, clarity, and connection that makes daily life feel less overwhelming and more hopeful.

  • Session fees vary based on your clinician. Carli’s fee is $175. Elaine’s fee is $250.

My fee is $250 for each 50-minute session. We will meet weekly for the first month and then decide if we want to continue meeting weekly or shift to every other week, if clinically appropriate.

Payment can be made via cash, check, or card (including HSA).

While I do not accept insurance, I can provide a superbill (receipt), which you can submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement if you’d like.
